Apple Most Widely Held, Retail Investors Were Net Buyers Overall in 2014

JJ Kinahan, Chief Strategist of TD Ameritrade, says clients were net buyers overall in 2014, keeping their portfolios bullishly positioned. Energy, information technology and consumer discretionary rounded out the top sectors owned. Top owned stocks included: Apple, General Electric, Bank of America, Microsoft and Facebook. Kinahan says for the December reading, TD Ameritrade clients bought shares in beaten down names like the oil producers and high yield names. Net selling activity was similar to that of November with clients selling popular names in the financial sector, tech and consumer as retail investors took gains.
