Apple (AAPL) is normally known for providing a platform for content distribution. But now, the tech giant is exploring the idea of creating original content to challenge the likes of Netflix (NFLX), Amazon (AMZN), and Hulu. The iPhone maker is talking to Hollywood executives about producing shows just for Apple, according to Variety. With the new version of the Apple TV hardware expected to be unveiled next week, S&P Capital IQ analyst Angelo Zino says this could be a big positive for the biggest company in the world. He thinks that the company plans to focus on the hardware side of the business and evolve into selling actual TV systems. Having original content offerings would definitely be a big positive, according to Zino. He says the industry is evolving today, and we can see a shift in consumers looking for TV offerings via video and online. TheStreet's Kurumi Fukushima reports in New York.
