Apple App Store Sales Rise 40% in 2016
New Year's Day was the app store's most profitable day ever, with customers spending nearly $240 million on apps and in-app purchases.
Apple's (AAPL) - Get Report App store experienced a 40% year-over-year increase in revenue in 2016, generating $20 billion for developers during the year. The company says customers spent nearly $240 million on apps and in-app purchases on New Year's Day alone, the digital store's biggest day of sales ever.
Billings from subscription services like Netflix (NFLX) - Get Report , Tinder and HBO Now increased 74% to $2.7 billion. Pokemon Go was the most downloaded of the app store's 2.2 million offerings in 2016, while the recently released Super Mario Run was also in the top 10.
