Apple Announces $1.9B Investment in European Data Centers

Apple has announced plans to invest $1.9 billion on two new European data centers. The facilities will be constructed in Ireland and Denmark and powered entirely by renewable energy. The project is Apple's biggest ever investment in Europe and will create hundreds of jobs. The data centers will power Apple online services including the iTunes and app stores, iMessage, Maps and Siri. The center will be among the largest in the world, each measuring around 1.8 million square feet and operations are scheduled to begin in 2017. Apple's European sales rose to $17.2 billion last quarter, providing 23 percent of company revenue.
