AMC Proposes $200 Million Deal For Stake in BBC America
AMC Networks proposed a deal to acquire almost 50% of BBC America for about $200 million.
AMC Networks proposed a deal to acquire almost 50% of BBC America for about $200 million, ultimately creating a partnership between two TV companies known for high-quality shows. The deal being discussed would keep BBC America controlled by BBC Worldwide, which is the main commercial arm of the British Broadcasting Corporation. The agreement would also value the U.S channel at more than $400 million. BBC America would be added to AMC Networks so when it negotiates for fees, it would give both BBC America and AMC Networks more bargaining leeway against pay-tv operators. The new deal may just help AMC Networks since its stock has declined by 14% this year.
