Amazon Stock Climbs After Announcing Seven New Pilots for 2015
Shares of Amazon.com (AMZN) rose as the online retailer announced seven new pilots for 2015, making it TheStreet's Move of the Day. The lineup for its first pilot season includes comedy show, 'Mad Dogs' and a half-hour documentary series called 'The New Yorker Presents.' The pilots are scheduled to debut in early 2015 and will exclusively stream on Amazon Instant Video in the U.S., U.K. and Germany. Amazon first rolled out its streaming TV and movie services in 2011 for its Prime customers, directly competing against rival Netflix Inc. (NFLX). Also, Goldman Sachs noted that Amazon continues to be aggressive, pricing its products lower than other retailers. The firm's survey of toys and consumer electronics showed that Amazon increased the gap between its prices and the prices of its competitors, including Wal-Mart Stores (WMT) and Target Corp (TGT).
