Amazon is betting on a big Cyber Monday -- expecting its customers will top the 36.8 million items ordered on the Monday after Thanksgiving last year. This, as the National Retail Federation expects a drop in Cyber Monday shoppers from last year. NRF president and CEO Matthew Shay attributes the decline to an improving economy that makes consumers less pressured for deals, as well as retailers providing holiday discounts before and after Cyber Monday. Amazon is one of those retailers. The company is offering eight days of cyber savings, with new deals added as often as every ten minutes. In order to prepare for the onslaught of orders, Amazon has deployed more than 15,000 robots to assist employees in warehouses, hired 80,000 seasonal workers and opened more shipping centers.
