Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos announced that the e-commerce giant is investing $1 billion in India.
But not everyone is happy about that.
Indian small business owners are staging protests against Amazon, saying the company's deep discount policy is kicking them out of their businesses.
Protesters chanted "Jeff Bezos go back!" and "Amazon go back!" Signs also called Amazon a "second version of the East India Company."
These protests could spread to as many as 300 cities in India.
Amazon sees India as a lucrative market and has invested more than $5 billion in the country.
“I predict that the 21st century is going to be the Indian century,” Bezos said. “The dynamism, the energy ... this country has something special. The most important alliance is going to be the alliance between India and the United States, the world’s oldest democracy and the world’s largest democracy.”
