Amazon submitted a request to the Federal Aviation Administration earlier this week, asking for an exemption so that it could start testing on drones outside of FAA-designated areas. The FAA has designated six sites across the nation where drone testing can take place, but the online retailing giant hopes to experiment on drone delivery at its research and development facility in Seattle. The unmanned and remote-controlled robotic aircraft could be used by the company to deliver packages ordered via the site in 30 minutes or less. Amazon hopes Amazon Prime Air will be available as soon as next year.
