Amazon and Ebola Weigh on Markets, P&G Spins-Off Duracell
Markets opened flat on Friday as Ebola concerns weighed on Wall Street as the first confirmed case hit New York City. Doctor Craig Spencer tested positive for Ebola. He recently returned from West Africa where he treated Ebola patients. Amazon (AMZN) shares are down sharply in early trading. The online retailer missed earnings expectations and gave a disappointing holiday sales outlook. Microsoft (MSFT) beat its earnings expectations as sales were boosted by cloud-computing products and personal computer. Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) exceeded Wall Street's estimates for its quarterly results. The drug maker topped its earnings forecasts by $0.03 a share. Procter & Gamble (PG) met earnings expectations, but revenues fell just slightly short of expectations, but the big news from the company is that it's spinning off its Duracell battery business, which is sent its shares higher.
