Shares of Alere (ALR) were under pressure Thursday after appealing a decision that revoked its Arriva Medical unit's Medicare billing privileges. The company says the decision is unlawful and harmful to the more than 500,000 patients who depend on Arriva. The Arriva unit is the largest contract supplier for diabetes testing supplies under the Medicare National Mail Order Competitive Bid Program. Arriva expects the Administrative Law Judge at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to hear the appeal within 30 days and issue a decision within three months.
