Alaska Airlines announced on Monday that it has ordered 10 planes from Boeing for $990 million. The airline, which uses Boeing exclusively, said the new planes, the 737-900ERs, will replace its 737-400s and will help it save money in the long run. The new 737-900 Boeing planes hold 25% more passengers and use the same amount of fuel. This purchase brings Alaska’s total Boeing jet orders to 74. Alaska Airlines is a subsidiary of Seattle-based Alaska Air Group Inc., which also owns Horizon Air. Shares of Boeing are up 8.3% over the past year.
