Akamai CEO: Be Scared In the Wake of Major Cyberattacks

Dr. Tom Leighton co-founded Akamai Technologies in 1998, and has seen a great deal in the tech space through the years. He tells TheStreet the rising numbers of hacks is a particularly concerning problem for Corporate America.

Be concerned about the rising number of high-profile hacks. 

That is the friendly reminder from Akamai (AKAM) - Get Report co-founder and CEO Dr. Tom Leighton. "The majority of login attempts are actually bots trying to hack into people's accounts so they can steal things - you should be scared, cybersecurity is a serious problem," Leighton told TheStreet.

While Akamai plays a key role in the plumbing that supports video watching and live streaming, Leighton says the company is very focused on providing the technology to help companies fight off hacks. The efforts have paid dividends, with Akamai's cloud security business notching 27% revenue growth in the most recent quarter. It's now a half a billion dollar business.
