Celebrities like actor Steve Buscemi participated in the annual Charity Day event hosted by Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners, which marks the anniversary of 9/11. The event raises millions for charity each year, and honors the lives of 658 Cantor employees and 61 Eurobrokers employees who were killed in the terrorist acts. Buscemi, a native New Yorker and former firefighter, helped out with his former fire company, Engine 55, during the aftermath of 9/11. ‘You just saw all of New York come together,’ said Buscemi about those days. ‘As tragic as it was, there was a feeling the air that we all need to come together and we all need to help each other.’ Buscemi was raising money for the charity Friends of Firefighters, which was established after 9/11 to provide mental health and other services to firefighters and their families. During Charity Day, celebrities join brokers on the trading floor to speak with clients and solicit donations. Charity Day has raised approximately $113 million globally.
