A New Potential Headache for Tesla
Telsa (TSLA) - Get Report may be a modern car company but it may face an old time automaker issue: unions. The United Auto Workers is reportedly interested in unionizing Tesla's employees. UAW president Dennis Williams told reporters last week in Detroit that the union is very interested in the California-based company and that they've got contacts at its Fremont manufacturing plant, a former UAW plant friendly to unions. Investors should be on guard: adding the UAW to the mix could translate into higher wages, stricter work rules and possible labor stoppages - all potential headwinds for Tesla as it tries to hit an already ambitious target of cranking out a half million mass market Model 3 cars in the next two and a half years. So far no word from Tesla on where it stands on the issue.
