Forget HD televisions, the future of the TV will be all about 4k. But as television makers race to make a bigger, brighter, faster and less expensive 4k TV in the hopes that consumers will splurge, the real battle is over the software that powers it. Until now, TVs delivered an image and the content came from somewhere else, but now, the television is also the content delivery system, known as the 'smart tv.' But, each TV maker has its own operating system. Sony and Sharp are developing their own proprietary systems, LG uses Web OS, Panasonic uses Firefox OS and Samsung is using a system called Tizen. TheStreet's Ruben Ramirez reports from Las Vegas.
