Home Depot Inc. (HD) finance chief Carol Tome said interest rates were to blame for the stock market selloff earlier this month, but the long term outlook is bullish. Meanwhile, a housing shortage means good things for Home Depot shares -- which were already gaining steam Tuesday on a hearty earnings beat. 

Walmart Inc. (WMT) couldn't say the same about earnings after missing analyst forecasts Tuesday, but that's no cause for concern. CFO Bill Briggs told TheStreet Walmart is set for gains in the long run, plus it's the only real competitor that could take on ecommerce giant Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) .
