While the fires in Napa and Sonoma Counties basically are over, the rebuilding is just beginning. The fires burned an estimated 200,000 acres, 5,700 homes and businesses, and claimed at least 42 lives.
So while Thanksgiving reminds us to be thankful for what we have, we also have to remember the people that need us most.
And there are tons of ways you can help the Wine Country victims and here are just a few:
You can buy wine:
For instance, the Robert Mondavi Winery will donate 10% of all of their 2014 Maestro Red Blend sales to Napa Fire Relief between now and November 31st. Buy it here.
You can visit Wine Country: Charles Krug Winery is also donating a portion of sales in the tasting room throughout November to fire relief.
Donate to a GoFundMe Programs:Consider Heart of The Vine Relief Fund, started by Vintage Wine Estates. They will purchase gift cards and distribute them to employees, families and first responders who have lost their homes and need the absolute basics to just get re-started. (Vintage Estates recently purchased Cameron Hughes and we talked with CH co-founder Jessica Kogan about it all.)
Attend an Event:Check out the ChefsGiving Gala Event in San Francisco this weekend. ChefsGiving is a charity set up by chefs, restaurants and wineries in support of those devastated by the North Bay fires, with the goal of raising funds for those in need of temporary and long-term housing throughout Wine Country. The Gala Event is the culmination of week long charity events. Tickets are still available.
