Ahead of Tuesday's mayoral elections, former New York City Deputy Mayor Daniel Doctoroff applauds Mayor Bill de Blasio's affordable housing efforts.

Doctoroff served under former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

"[In the Bloomberg administration] we did spend about $8 billion on affordable housing and created or preserved 165,000 units of housing," Doctoroff said. "There are 500,000 New Yorkers now living in apartments that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford because of those efforts."

Doctoroff said the current de Blasio administration is carrying that legacy.

Doctoroff is currently the CEO of Sidewalk Labs, an Alphabet (GOOGL - Get Report) company and the author of the new book Greater Than Ever: New York's Big Comeback
