Americans love their pumpkins, especially with Halloween around the corner. Whether it's for carving, pies or in their lattes, pumpkins have a boost in popularity during October. You may not realize it, but America's favorite gourd actually draws in some pretty big business, at least while they are in season. After all, your guilty favorite drink at Starbucks (SBUX - Get Report) has to come from some where. 

In 2016, the U.S. produced about 18 million pounds of pumpkins. In 2015, the U.S. consumed 3.1 pounds of pumpkin per person. Pumpkins can grow to be pretty giant. In 2016, one 2,624.6 pound gourd took the Guinness World Record for heaviest pumpkin.
