President Donald Trump has threatened to shut down the government in order to secure funding for his proposed border wall.

Speaking at a rally in Phoenix, Trump said "If we have to close down our government, we're building that wall."

The government will shut down if the President does not sign a funding deal into law by September 30th. That means Trump could trigger a shut down by vetoing any budget passed by Congress that does not include funding for the border wall.

Trump's plan to build a wall across the U.S.-Mexico border was one of his key campaign pledges.
