Altice NV (ATCEY)  shares surged the most in two months in early Thursday trading after the French telecoms and cable group controlled by billionaire Patrick Drahi raised its stake in SFR Group amid continued speculation it may be preparing a takeover bid for Charter Communications (CHTR) .

Who is the French Billionaire that could be making a play for Charter Communications? Patrick Drahi is the billionaire founder of Dutch telecoms company Altice. Drahi was born in Morocco and moved to France when he was 15. He reportedly proposed to his wife an hour after meeting her. The couple now have four children.

Drahi founded multiple cable companies including Mediareseaux, which he sold to John Malone in 1999. In 2002, he created Altice, which was later floated in 2014 in Amsterdam.
