In a retail landscape decimated by almighty Amazon (AMZN) , most retailers are considered lost causes before they even hold their earnings calls. But if anyone can find success in the struggling industry, it's naturally Warren Buffett. 

Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A) just reported that earnings from its retail businesses actually increased 27% in the three months through June. So where did Buffett find the retail holy grail?
