Nvidia (NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) shares are on fire not just because of Apple (AAPL) .

"Technology is on fire - look at what the tech sector has done," said Kenny Polcari, director of equities at O'Neil Securities. "Even energy companies - they are partly becoming technology companies."

Nvidia shares are up over 38% since the start of the year, while AMD shares are up 18%. The broad S&P 500 is up 8.6%.
