2015 is going to be a big year for Paypal -- an IPO and newfound independence -- but will it be a big year for its soon-to-be-ex, eBay? The web auctioneer is seeing its marketplace flooded by new e-commerce competition, and even as Paypal's IPO draws closer, the strategy for eBay without its digital payments cash cow isn't yet clear. New competitors, like the soon-to-IPO Etsy, are digging into eBay's client base. eBay, for its part, is turning to the business lines of even older legacy auction businesses, like Sotheby's, and is auctioning classic cars as it looks for a new revenue stream.
