Major U.S. markets were mixed in midday trading Wednesday with Apple (AAPL) pushing the Nasdaq lower. Stocks had opened positive on the possibility of a cease-fire between Ukraine and Russia. Samsung unveiled its latest devices at simultaneous events in New York, Beijing and Berlin. The South Korean electronics giant showed off its new curved smartphone and virtual reality headset. The launch may be spooking Apple investors. Shares are down more than 3.5%. Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 6 next week. Factory orders in July spiked up more than 10%. Andrew Madoff, son of Bernard Madoff, has died at age 48 of lymphoma, according to CNBC. After the bell, H&R Block (HRB) will report its quarterly earnings. Wall Street is expecting the tax preparer to say it lost $0.40 a share.
