Vulcan Materials is seeing volumes rise for its asphalt and concrete as construction demand increases nationwide, said James Abate, portfolio manager for the Centre American Select Equity Fund. Abate added that Vulcan's margins are expanding as it raises prices during this inflection year for the company. He is also bullish on Calpine, saying the power generator is buying back a huge amount of shares with the massive cash flow it generates. Finally, Abate said he is positive on shares of Union Pacific despite the railroad's recent fatal crash, primarily because of its geographical advantages and exposure to America's energy patches.
