Vincenzo Nibali's victory at the 2014 Tour de France creates a huge sales opportunity for Specialized Bicycle Components, said the company's CMO Ben Capron. Nibali and the Astana team rode the Specialized S-Works Tarmac to victory. The new Rider-First Engineered Tarmac represents a breakthrough in bicycle design with seven frame sizes developed using stress data that corresponds to the size of the individual rider. In addition to the Tarmac, Nibali and other cyclists on the three teams sponsored by Specialized relied on the company's shoes and helmets to improve their times. Capron said the sport of cycling continues to grow in the US, especially among women riders, creating a huge opportunity for the privately held company.
