The best CEOs try to put their own companies out of business, says Josh Linkner, venture investor and author of "The Road to Reinvention". Linkner says the best technology executives are always seeking to make the prior version of their software or hardware irrelevant. He says Google's management has done a phenomenal job of diversifying to find the next great product. Similarly, he says the city of Detroit is trying to reinvent itself and it will be less dependent on the automotive business in its next incarnation. Finally, Linkner points to Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway as a company which successfully made itself over and achieved new heights.
