Congress is voting on amendments to the fiscal 2015 appropriations bill that contain $51 billion in discretionary spending. Some of the amendments that have been discussed revolve around the Drug Enforcement Agency. The department is getting its budget increased more than it has requested and at a time when many departments are getting cut. There is also an amendment that would prohibit the DEA from spending money raiding state-licensed marijuana businesses. The measure is intended to protect medical marijuana patients and providers and it has already been offered seven times.
