Schwartz says he purchased Loral in 1971 because it had great technology, but was poorly managed. Schwartz eventually sold off the majority of Loral to Lockheed Martin for $9.1B, however, he was unable to repeat that success with satellite phone provider Globalstar, which went bankrupt.
