The World’s largest gold ETF, the SPDR GLD Gold ETF, celebrates its 10th anniversary on November 18. Will Rhind, CEO of World Gold Trust Services tells TheStreet’s Jill Malandrino the 400 ounce gold bars are typical of the type of bars stored within the GLD trust. Each bar is worth roughly $500,000 U.S. dollars in the current market. Just within our studio, we had over $1 million in gold! Despite the decline in the underlying commodity, GLD is still the largest gold fund in the world, and Rhind says at one point it was the largest ETF, outpacing the SPDR S&P 500 ETF. It has been wildly popular to the retail and institutional investor because the GLD provides an easier way to transact gold or hold in a diversified portfolio.
