The ranks of Hollywood dealmakers at
grew Tuesday with the appointment of former ABC television executive Lloyd Braun as head of the Internet company's media and entertainment division.
Braun will oversee the division that comprises Yahoo!'s movie, television, music, games and finance segments. He will formally join the company on Nov. 15 and report to Chief Operating Officer Dan Rosensweig.
From January 2002 to April 2004, Braun was chairman of ABC Television Entertainment, a unit of
, with responsibility for all "creative, programming and business" areas of the company. He left the job amid a management reshuffling last spring.
Yahoo!'s statement announcing Braun's hiring will undoubtedly get tongues wagging in M&A circles, particularly with the company reported to be the lead bidder in the sale auction of
"The growing consumer demand for compelling content on the Internet and the rapid proliferation of broadband is an exciting growth opportunity for Yahoo!, and we are committed to further bolstering what are already the leading content properties on the Web," the company said in a release.
Yahoo!'s current CEO is Terry Semel, who once ran the Warner Brothers movie studio.
