
Windows Phone 7 Has Cheapest Apps
NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Applications for Microsoft's (MSFT) - Get Report Windows Phone 7 platform are the cheapest of all the mobile application stores including those offered by Apple (AAPL) - Get Report, Google (GOOG) - Get Report, Research In Motion (RIM) and Nokia (NOK) - Get Report, according to a new report from app tracking firm Distimo.
Paid applications in the Windows Phone 7 store cost an average price of $1.95. This price is in-line with other marketplaces with the exception of Windows' previous operating system, Windows Mobile, whose applications are much more expensive.

The average price of the 100 most popular paid applications on Windows Phone 7 is $2.54 -- less than the average price of $3.05 in all other stores, but more expensive than those found on the iPhone.

Games are also much more popular on Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 platform than they are on Windows Mobile. All ten of the most popular paid applications on Windows Phone 7 are games, the report found.
Microsoft currently has more than 3,000 applications in its Windows Phone 7 Marketplace since it launched last month, according to the company. In contrast, Windows Marketplace for Mobile -- which was rolled out last year -- has 1,350 applications.
Apple's App Store has 300,000 applications while Google'sAndroid Marketplace boasts over 200,000 applications.
Microsoft is making a big push to promote the Windows Phone 7 this holiday season. The company is integrating applications in Bing Visual Search results, as well as within the Xbox dashboard.
Microsoft has seen an 80% uptick in the number of registered developers since September, and said that more than 15,000 developers have signed up to write applications for the platform.
