swung to a profit in the third quarter, benefiting from strength in its women's health and general product lines.
The company earned $40.7 million, or 38 cents a share, in the latest quarter, compared with a loss of $58.6 million, or 55 cents a share, in the comparable quarter.
Excluding certain items, the company earned $45.7 million, or 43 cents a share, compared with $37.8 million, or 35 cents a share, in 2001. Analysts were expecting the company to earn 42 cents a share.
Revenue rose 14% to $307.9 million, compared with $270.9 million the year before.
Looking to the fourth quarter, Corona, Calif.-based Watson expects to earn between 42 cents and 44 cents a share on revenue of $305 million to $315 million. Analysts expect the company to earn 44 cents a share.
