said U.S. same-store sales for July continue to track at the high end of its 2% to 4% growth range.
In a recorded sales update, the discount retailer said "seasonal sales missed in May and June continue to help July's comp sales," adding that higher traffic is the main contributor to the increase.
Wal-Mart said its strongest items in the week to last Friday were intimate apparel, swimwear, pet supplies, live plants, health and beauty aids, pharmaceuticals and food. The Northeast was the company's strongest region.
Shares of Wal-Mart, the world's biggest company by revenue, closed Friday at $56.19, up 56 cents, or 1%.
