SAN FRANCISCO -- Kicking off the VMWorld conference, VMware (VMW) - Get VMware, Inc. Class A Report announced Tuesday it had acquired Dunes Technologies, a Swiss developer of virtualization management software.
VMWare said software from Dunes will complement VMWare's primary management product.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed. VMware's stock took off on the news; it was recently up $5.14, or 6.7% to $81.90.
"Dunes has developed a powerful orchestration platform that will allow us to automate the entire virtual machine lifecycle ... while complementing existing VMware management and automation solutions," Raghu Raghuram, vice president at VMware, said in a statement.
