On the eve of the
Federal Trade Commission's
antitrust trial against Intel, the FTC surprised investors earlier today by saying it had reached an agreement with the company.
Intel shares were recently trading up 3 7/8, or 3.38%, to 118 1/2.
Broadcom Climbs on News of Upgrade
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter
analyst Mark Edelstone upgraded
, the high-speed communications chipmaker, to outperform from neutral this morning. Broadcom shares were lately up 9, or 16.74%, to 62 3/4.
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter has underwritten for Broadcom and is holding its annual semiconductor conference this week.
Internet Stocks Soar
Shares of online publisher
hit an all-time high in anticipation of the company's previously announced stock split. On Feb. 10, CNet announced plans for a 2-for-1 stock split, effective after today's market close. Since the company announced the split, its shares have more than doubled from 91 5/16. The stock was recently up 24 3/4, or 14.73%, to 192 3/4.
