beat consensus earnings estimates on record shipments to customers, posting a third-quarter profit of $59.4 million, or 78 cents a share, up from $40.4 million, or 52 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Analysts had been expecting 64 cents a share, according to Thomson Financial/First Call.
Revenue for the quarter also rose to a record $290.6 million, up from $241.8 million in the year-ago quarter.
The antivirus and computer security provider said the results indicated a consumer rebound, and it also provided fourth-quarter guidance. The company expects fourth-quarter earnings per share of 66 cents to 74 cents on revenue of $285 million to $295 million.
Shares of Symantec were recently trading up 6.7% to $71.45 on Instinet, after closing at $66.95 on Nasdaq Thursday.
