will invest $100 million in wireless companies over the next year, as part of a plan to promote and develop wireless infrastructure.

The company said its venture fund will help fuel the development of innovative wireless applications and services. Sun currently invests in companies such as








. Future investments may support companies exploring wireless technologies such as location services, streaming video to handheld devices and security.

The company will also team up with more than 50 wireless software, application and content providers in its iForce Wireless initiative. Sun also introduced its iPlanet Intelligent Communications Platform to help companies introduce wireless services.
