The state-of-the-economy index remained unchanged in December 2001, having slid 0.4% in November. The Bank of Israel reports the S-indicator reflects the continued recession that began in the last quarter of 2000. The indicator began slipping at the onset of the intifada and continued to do so throughout 2001.
The index is comprised of several other indexes, such as the import index that rose 5.6% in December after slipping 3.6% in November. The industrial production index added a 0.5% drop to its 1.2% slide in October, and The trade and services redemption index dropped by 2.2% in November after a 2.8% increase in October.
