, the business software maker, said third-quarter profits rose 12% but the earnings came in below analysts' expectations.

SAP posted earnings of €501 million ($691.4 million) vs. year-earlier net income of 447 million. Analysts had predicted a profit of €553 million euros, according to analysts surveyed by

Revenue in the quarter rose 20% to €3 billion; software and software-related service revenue also rose 20% to €2.32 billion.

SAP said all of its geographic regions reported growth in the third quarter, "with particular strength in the U.S. and the emerging markets of Asia, Europe and Latin America."

SAP maintained its outlook for the full year saying it expects software and software-related service revenue to increase in a range of 9% to 11%. In 2009, it had revenue of €8.2 billion.
