The order bars Verio, a unit of

NTT Communications

, from using Register.com's domain registry to target its customers.

Register.com's complaint alleged that Verio led Register.com customers to believe the two companies were affiliated. Register.com also said sending unsolicited emails was a violation of the agreement between the company and its users.

Register.com recently rose 44 cents, or 7.2%, to $6.50 in afternoon trading. Nippon Telegraph gained $2.63, or 6.6%, to $42.50.
