beat analysts' second-quarter earnings estimates even as revenue fell 25% from the same period a year ago.

The company, a designer of chip-connection technology, earned 7 cents a share in the quarter, topping expectations by 2 cents, and flat-with the prior year. Revenue declined to $23.5 million from $31.2 million.

Rambus also said third-quarter revenue will be basically the same as the second-quarter top line, while earnings should come in around 6 cents. Analysts expect a profit of 5 cents.

Shares of Rambus were up 4.7% to $7.85 after the close in trading on the Instinet platform.
