named Oren Shaffer to succeed Robin Szeliga as chief financial officer and said it would realign its business structure into three segments.
Shaffer was CFO of Ameritech under recently appointed Qwest CEO Richard Notebaert after spending 25 years at Goodyear. Szeliga, hired by ousted Qwest CEO Joseph Nacchio, remains an executive vice president of the company, focusing on Qwest's debt reduction plans.
Notebaert named several other former Ameritech executives to top posts as he prepared to defend the phone company from an SEC investigation into its accounting practices and avert a potential cash crunch.
The company also combined its residential, wireless, cable and video businesses as the consumer markets group under executive vice president Annette Jacobs, who was formerly responsible for the wireless business. It combined its national and global corporate accounts under executive vice president Clifford Holtz, who was formerly responsible for national business accounts. Gordon Martin, executive vice president, will continue to run Qwest's wholesale markets group.
