Purchase Enlarges CA's Storage Offering

The software company bought the assets of a small storage firm.

on Wednesday announced the acquisition of most of the assets of privately held software developer Netreon in an all cash deal.

Although terms were not disclosed, a company spokesman said the transaction wasn't expected to have a material impact on CA's financial performance, a phrase that signals the transaction is a small one.

Computer Associates, a software maker with roots in the mainframe business, said it will integrate its Brightstor line of storage management systems with Netreon's SANexec Designer which will be branded as BrightStor SAN Designer.

In recent trading, Computer Associates was up 39 cents, or 2.90%, to $13.84 a share.
