Online travel and leisure-services company
acquired the domain name and customer base of
, a site that reserves rental cars on a discounted basis.
Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.
In 2002, Rentalcars.com had around 300,000 visitors a month and generated more than $10 million in gross bookings, Priceline said. The company also said the acquisition is part of its larger strategy of expanding into retail travel markets.
"In addition to getting a Web address so closely associated with rental car shopping, this purchase also furthers priceline.com's goal of becoming a one-stop shop for travelers," the company said.
Shares of Norwalk, Conn.-based Priceline ended
trading at $22.28 Monday.
