dragged down most of the other personal computer makers today following warnings from both companies that Wall Street should lower its prior expectations.

Yesterday, Gateway missed its already lowered earnings estimates by a

wide margin, just moments after Hewlett-Packard projected its

own shortfall.

Hewlett-Packard fell $1.56, or 4.8%, to $30.81, and Gateway dropped $1.19, or 5.2%, to $21.71, in recent

New York Stock Exchange

trading.

(CPQ)

dipped 51 cents, or 3.5%, to $18.60 on the Big Board and

Apple

was down 25 cents, or 1.4%, to $17.44 on the

Nasdaq

(DELL) - Get Dell Technologies Inc Class C Report

managed to gain 50 cents, or 2.2%, to $23.31 on the Nasdaq, while

IBM

(IBM) - Get International Business Machines (IBM) Report

was on the upside of the NYSE, gaining $1.63, or 1.7%, or $95.31.

The

Philadelphia Stock Exchange Box Maker Index

recently slipped 1.2% to 132.75.
