Oracle Gains on New Software Licenses
Oracle posts better-than-expected third-quarter earnings. Shares were lower in premarket trading Friday.

posted better-than-expected third-quarter earnings, as revenue from new software licenses grew.
During the third quarter, the software giant earned $1.2 billion, or 23 cents a share, compared with $1.3 billion, or 26 cents, for Oracle in the year-ago period.

Excluding one-time items, Oracle actually earned 38 cents a share, a penny higher than analysts' estimates.
Oracle's sales jumped 18% to $6.47 billion from $5.50 billion last year.
Shares of Oracle were slightly lower in premarket trading Friday to $25.90. The stock closed Thursday at $26.04.
