Openwave Systems (OPWV) was up 6.1% in preopen Island trading after it posted a second-quarter operating profit of 9 cents per share, one quarter ahead of schedule. The Street expected the communications software company to post a loss of 3 cents per share. After merger-related and other costs, however, Openwave posted a loss of $1.38 per share. The company was formed through the merger of Phone.com and Software.com.
